Savvy Seasoning Tips

Food Preparation… Some foods are best seasoned in advance of cooking. This is especially true for meats where you want the seasoning to penetrate, or in casseroles where the seasoning will be cooked into the foods.

Original or Light?... If you need to avoid sugar, Savvy Seasoning Light is for you. It contains all the same ingredients as the original but no sugar or sugar substitutes. Sugar tends to “soften” the taste of other spices, so Savvy Seasoning Light has a slightly “sharper" taste.

Table Seasoning…
Don’t leave your Savvy Seasoning on the spice rack; keep a bottle on the dining table so everyone can season to their particular taste.  Say good bye to your salt and pepper shakers!

Meat Tenderizing…
The small amount of sugar in Savvy Seasoning is a natural meat tenderizer.  Put it on your meats about an hour before cooking.

Browning and Caramelizing… Want that “golden brown” you see on foods at fine restaraunts?  When grilling, pan, or stir frying, Savvy Seasoning will caramelize and add a nice golden brown to your food.

Red Meats…
Use Original to season and tenderize. Savvy Seasoning is not intended as a rub, so don’t overdo it.  Experiment with how much is right for you.

Poultry… For roasting, sprinkle inside and out. Get ready for the best chicken and turkey you have ever tasted.

Fish… Fried, baked, or broiled, season just prior to cooking.  Try it on all kinds of fish including salmon and Ahi Tuna. Awesome!

Vegetables, Potatoes, Pastas…
Experiment with your favorite recipes and try adding Savvy Seasoning to bring these foods to life.

Dehydrating/Drying…Season foods prior to placing them in the dehydrator or oven.  It is great for making jerkey of all kinds, as well as dried veggies like Okra, potato chips, string beans, etc.

Hard Toasted French bread Rounds
Loaf of French bread, olive oil, butter, Savvy Seasoning
Slice bread into ¼ inch slices.  Brush with olive oil and melted butter.  Sprinkle on Savvy Seasoning.  Bake at 400F until golden brown.  Place on cooling rack.  Serve in basket with a salad.

Perfect Peas
1 can baby peas, tsp butter, Savvy Seasoning
Bring peas to hard boil.  Add butter and Savvy Seasoning to taste.  As liquid begins to disappear take a spoon and mash some of the peas to create a creamy sauce.  Turn to low heat and then serve. (Even people who don’t like peas like these.)

Savvy Pasta
Create an awesome side dish with any left over pasta without sauce…spaghetti, noodles, linguini.  Use plain pasta, olive oil/butter, diced onion, garlic (optional), Savvy Seasoning.
In a hot skillet add olive oil and a tbsp of butter.  Add onion and garlic and cook briefly until onion is translucent. Add pasta and stir until coated and hot.  Serve as a side dish or as a main dish with a salad.
(Goes great with the Hard Toasted French Bread Rounds and is a good substitute for potatoes or rice.)

Mikes Savvy Potato Chips
Unsalted potato chips, Savvy Seasoning
Spread unsalted potato chips on a cookie sheet and place in 350F oven for about 3 minutes. This awakens the oil on the chip.  Take out of the oven and season with Mikes Savvy Seasoning.  Let cool and serve.  (Note: Ok, they are no longer unsalted, but boy are they delicious.)

Savvy Popcorn
Popcorn, Savvy Seasoning
Sprinkle Savvy Seasoning on hot popcorn.  (No need to add the butter unless you need the extra calories.  Caution: Can be addictive!)

Pork Tenderloin
Pork tenderloins, olive oil, garlic, fresh rosemary
Season the whole tenderloins with Savvy Seasoning. In a striping skillet add olive oil, 2 tbsp chopped garlic and several sprigs of fresh rosemary.  Before the rosemary burns, remove and place to the side. Place the tenderloins in the HOT skillet and sear on all sides but do not cook completely.  Move them to a baking dish, pour the olive oil and garlic over the meat and return the rosemary.  Finish in a 400F oven for 10 minutes.  Allow to rest for 10 minutes before slicing into medallions and serving.  (Awesome with mashed potatoes and Perfect Peas.)

Savvy Bloody Mary
Tomato or V-8 Juice, ice, Tabasco, Worchester Sauce, Savvy Seasoning, Lime, Vodka
In a shaker add ice, vodka, juice, dash of Worchester, Tabasco to taste and dash of Savvy Seasoning.  Stir and strain into glass and garnish with a slice of lime. For a Virgin Mary simply leave out the Vodka.   (Now a secret recipe at my favorite restaurant in Houston.)

Fruits and Melons
Apples, pears, watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew melon…Savvy Seasoning
For those who like to put salt on these you will love using Savvy Seasoning instead of salt.

Fish
Your favorite fish…tilapia, snapper, flounder, red fish, tuna, salmon, halibut, Savvy Seasoning
Use Savvy Seasoning to season the fish immediately prior to cooking.  Pan fried, baked, broiled, or deep fried does not matter.  (Really makes fish taste great.)
